39 is the new 21

Mike Tyson said it best “Fear is your best friend or your worst enemy. It’s like fire. If you can control it, it can cook for you; it can heat your house. If you can’t control it, it will burn everything around you and destroy you. If you can control your fear, it makes you more alert, like a deer coming across the lawn.”

Swimming was one of my fears.   Crossfit training along with  Triathlon training has helped me overcome my swimming fears.      Yesterday I completed my first triathlon. (400 meter swim, 14 mile bike ride, 5K run).    Finished in 1.57.11.    Now on to the next Challenge..

Thanks  again to Erin Anderson for the Triathlon tips and to all the Coaches and athletes of 210 Crossfit and JonesN4crossfit for the training and constant support.

39 is the new 21!!

1 month compiled in 1 post

Starting off 210 Crossfit put on an amazing Couples Retreat Games Competition.   Mary Knight and I (Slim & Shady) knocked out 4 wod’s in a span of 3-4 hours.  They counted the good ones and No rep the band ones.  At the end of the day we all got a taste of what the Crossfit Games were like.  No we didn’t win.  In fact we came in 12th out of 22 teams (lol).

The next day 210 Crossfit hosted the Memorial Day Murph.  With the help of some of the members of Team WOD-UP (Josefine Wolfe, David Young, & Al Munoz) I broke the 50 minute Barrier  (49:18)..

The following week went back for some more Temple Strength.  We did a scaled version of one of the team wod’s from the Crossfit Games.  It was so much fun.  However before the WOD,  We did a fun bible study with Kettle Bells.

Now last week Jones4Crossfit hosted the Crossfit for Hope.  I went in thinking this should be a like Fight Gone Bad.  Wrong, much harder.  Much Much harder.. At the end of the Day, we put in the work and raised money for a great cause.

I’m Back

I had my blog address tampered with and have been out of commission for quite awhile.  With that said I have some catching up to do.  Tune in tomorrow as I share my adventures at 210 Crossfit (Couples Retreat & Memoral  Day Murph) followed by today’s Crossfit for Hope WOD @ Jonesinforcrossfit.

Day 3: The SNATCH TAKES CENTER STAGE

Now as exciting as crossfitting is to do, some movements/WOD  just doesn’t translate well to watch.  For example  the 2 thousand meter row for the individual competition and 1o00 meter row in the team competition).   I forgot to mentioned this in Day 2.    Now let me tell you what does translate well for the person whose never seen crossfit  first hand.  THE SNATCH LADDER!!!    Click on the video footage link below brought  to you by Al Munoz.

Aja Barto Snatch Ladder

I just kept thinking to myself the ladder starts at 155lbs.  My max is only 145.  That means I would have to do double unders for 50 seconds and my Snatch ladder would be over.  How sad is that.  Anyway, enough about ripping on me.  I can go on an on about that.

In closing I just want to say congrats to everyone that competed and help cheer on our fellow athletes this weekend.   Not too many sports where you can cheer on your Team and then two minutes later there hanging in the stands with you just hanging loose.

Day 2: Are you NOT ENTERTAINED??

All I can say is WOW!!  Watching the Games yesterday was like watching the movie “Gladiator”.  Obviously, no one was killed buy the hands of another human being, but one by one the bodies kept hitting the floor.     I’m  sure all of us in some point in our lives heard the  following terms said to you.

1.  Give it all of you got.

2. Leave it all on the floor

3. Dig Deep.

Well if a picture can say thousand words.   This one speaks volumes!! The photographer from the Crossfit Games truly captured the essence of what Crossfit is all about in one shot.  Notice the amazing effort by  Eric Villarreal (Owner and coach of River City Crossfit) .  Notice his fellow athletes that are competing against him routing him on to the finish.

Can’t wait to see the final Day. Get to the Coliseum and support the best Crossfitters in South Central.

Day 1 of South Central Crossfit Games: What an AMAZING DISPLAY OF ATHLETICISM AND COMPETITION

‎”Success is not owned, it is rented, and the rent is due everyday!”-Mark Lewis

This quote rings true to me in my business and as a crossfit athlete.    I just kept thinking to myself the majority of the athletes competing have 9 to 5′s, but still have enough in the tank to push themselves to the brink of collapsing.  Just when you think they have nothing left in the tank or want to throw in the towel these athletes flip the switch.   With the Summer Olympics around the corner, it seems like it’s only going to be matter of time when my sport makes its Olympic debut.  When you get to this stage of the games  you are a simply a BEAST.  These athletes are special.     With that said, it amazes me that the stands weren’t jammed packed.  Besides the Spurs playoffs this has to be the hottest ticket in town.  Anyway, I can go on and on about that, but let me get back to what matters.   After the end of the first day of competition  here are your leaders.
